About this deal

An important benchmarking-results and performance note: This is a different testbed than we used with other Ryzens we've reviewed to date, as AMD points out that the Ryzen 5 5600G and the Ryzen 7 5700G are compatible with only these four motherboards at the time of launch: The aluminum box cooler that Intel's been bundling with all their non-K SKUs for years allowed the R5 3600 to hit 95 degrees which forced it down to 3975 MHz.

Finally, we come to the bread and butter of Ryzen's G line of chips over the past few years: integrated graphics performance. In this arena, AMD has proven it has no equal, and Intel's closest competition to the Ryzen 5 5600G, the Core i5-11600K, is regularly doubled here in performance by both the 5600G and 5700G chips. And while the Ryzen 7 5700G does generally outpace the Ryzen 5 5600G by a decent margin, it's not so substantial that anyone except people running benchmarks would notice under most circumstances. I tested the sound levels with an app on my s10 (I know this isn't the most scientific test) and it was reading between 45 - 55db about 2 inches away from the fan and about 25DB when resting about 2 feet away infront of my keyboard. I had it away from the stream of air and made sure my room was silent during testing. This seems unnaturally loud considering the measurements I had read were around 42dB. The Wraith Stealth saw the Ryzen processor hit 90 degrees and that's far from ideal, at this temperature the R5 3600 still maintained 4050 MHz but it had to be close to dropping down to 4000 MHz, as this is the very frequency we saw with the copper version of Intel's box cooler and it only ran a degree hotter. All of the testing is done with an ambient temperature of ~22C. RealTemp will be used to monitor the temperature of the CPU.

It could also be the case that your CPU fan header is plugged into the wrong 4 pin. I remember historically that I plugged it into the pump header once which produced some strange results. We made sure there were as few processes running as possible by disabling a bunch of unnecessary services that come with Windows 10. Installing the Wraith Stealth cooler is super easy because it works with AMD's mounting system. Most people won't have any trouble setting it up, which makes it great for beginners building their first computer or anyone who wants a simple experience. Cooling Performance: Moving to the Wraith Spire increased the load temperature by 6 degrees and although the CPU is now running hotter the fan speed for the Spire only maxed out at 1700 RPM so the operating volume was much the same. VRM temps also remained much the same. Unfortunately, the new mounting holes break compatibility with all previous generation coolers for AM2/AM2+/AM3 and AM3+.

Regarding aesthetics and looks, while not a critical factor for a CPU cooler, it's worth noting that many users have not commented on its appearance. This suggests that the cooler's design is rather unobtrusive, blending well with various PC setups. The Wraith Prism is the cooler AMD supplies with the Ryzen 7 3700X and 3800X along with the Ryzen 9 3900X. We saw the R5 3600 peak at just 71 degrees when spinning its fan at 2100 RPM, and remember it was choked with cardboard. So the Prism set the benchmark at 71 degrees. For Ryzen 5 2600 owners it will net you Wraith Prism-like performance when gaming though it's worth noting that the 120mm fan does a much better job of cooling the VRM on our X470 board. The Gammaxx 200T also appears to be a decent upgrade option for R5 2600X and R7 2700 owners. The first test I did is to enter in the BIOS and see the CPU temperature at idle. After few minutes, the CPU temperature reached 58°C. We test CPUs using a variety of synthetic benchmarks that offer proprietary scores, as well as real-world tests using consumer apps like 7-Zip, and 3D games such as Far Cry 5 and Rainbow Six: Siege. Included in the charts below is a variety of like-priced competing and sibling AMD and Intel CPUs. CPU-Centric Tests which comes with the Ryzen 5 1500X, 1600 and Ryzen 7 1700, and finally, we have the top-of-the-line Wraith Max (140W TDP) which is included with the Ryzen 7 1700X and 1800X. In terms of noise, the general consensus is positive. Several users have praised its quiet operation, describing it as barely noticeable. This makes it a viable option for those who value a noise-free computing experience. Idle temperatures will be measured after leaving the computer idle for 20 minutes. CPU-Z will be used to verify the CPU speed and the voltage being used in Windows 10. Also, the coolers are tested with the default settings (Turbo, C1E etc) enabled in the BIOS.
